How does customs work?
When a freight truck gets to national borders, whether to import or export their cargo, customs is tasked with inspecting it.
Specially trained workers will fill out the CUSTOMS BILL (import or export): within this document several info must be present, such as info regarding the category and quantity of the goods being imported in a given country and the respective customs tax that needs to be paid by the importer.
- Waybill (the document of transport that certifies the exchange of goods between sender and recipient).
- Packing list.
- Sale and purchase invoices.
- Any necessary certificates or authorizations (for sanitary or chemical products, ADR or hazardous materials, perishable goods etc.).
The customs bill must be appropriately filled out and approved by the Central offices of customs. When the paperwork is not filled out or is insufficient to obtain the approval from the office, customs are allowed to carry out further inspections and controls on the entire load.
